iPhone Youtube Background

playing YouTube videos on the background is one of the most useful experiences on your iPhone or iPad.

The ability to watch a video or a show, or anything on YouTube while say browsing the internet, or reading a document on line, it great to be able to watch and read at the same time. Apple added the picture in picture (PIP) feature to iOS only in iOS 14 and even then with this feature YouTube videos couldn't be played on the background because google wants you to subscribe in order to get this feature.

Apple allows picture in picture for movies and videos that use the apple video interface. Therefore, it is not guaranteed to work in every app.

However, it will diffidently work when the video is played through the Safari browser on any iOS device.

This trick of playing videos in the background in picture in picture mode will work 100% when the video is played in the safari browser.

So, to that, you need to go the website that the video is coming from and playing it on Safari using the safari browser.

On YouTube, it is easy to do that. However, you have to make sure that when the video is about to play, that you don't switch to the YouTube App. Because once you switch to the YouTube App then you will follow the google guidelines which will not allow the picture in picture feature in their app unless you subscribe to Youtube Red.

To start, you need to open Safari on your iPhone or iPad, and type in the address bar youtube.com which will send you to the YouTube page. there, you can login with your name, and also add the YouTube page to your favorite so you can go there easily every time you like.

Now, the screen might adjust itself to the mobile version. So you need to switch to the desktop version in order for this to work.

Go to the address bar in safari and you will see double A's next to the address, tap there, and a menu will show up with multiple options. Pick the "Request Desktop Website" and your screen will shrink and the letters will be very small. You might need to zoom in in order to be able to see the contents.

Or, you can just search for the video you are looking for on YouTube. Now once the video plays, it will be in a screen inside of Safari. You need to enter full screen by tapping the square symbol on the right bottom of the video. Then, your video will play in full screen. at this point you can swipe to another app, and your video will continue playing in a small screen on your iPhone or iPad.
